Today carrot seeds were sown in each of the 4 trial beds. The spacing is the same as the onion sets – 9 per square. The ‘station sowing’ technique was used i.e. a few seeds were sown at the place where the plants were required. This is the standard way of sowing in ‘Square Foot Gardening’.
I always sow carrots in bagged compost rather than soil as I seldom get a fine enough tilth. A small hole is dug out with a trowel which is then filled with compost. The seeds are dropped onto the surface then covered with a fine layer of the compost.

The onions in bed 2 were also sprayed with seaweed extract. This will be repeated on a weekly basis.
