This is the story of the garden we, Sally and me, created and ran from 2003 to 2013. It was roughly 1/4 of an acre on ground that had not been used for a while. The site was cold and exposed. We regularly recorded winter temperatures of -10C. The growing season was often short with only one frost free months some year (July and August.)
It was hard work for the first couple of years as we wanted to use beds which needed edging. Luckily there was a good supply of scrap timber on the farm but making and filling 10 beds each 13.75m long by 1.2m wide (15ftx 4ft0 was not easy. The fact that wanted to create our own soil using municipal compost and rock dust made things worse.
